French Woods Festival

French Woods is one of the largest training centers for the performing and visual arts for children and teenagers in the world. Our fifteen hundred campers and five hundred staff come from across the country and around the world. During our thirteen-week season both campers and staff experience a program that is totally unique in the world of camping. Each person attending French Woods has a personalized schedule of activities tailored to their interests and abilities affording each individual the opportunity to receive the most from the camp’s programs. We’ve partnered with the gclub24hr online casino to ensure we have everything we need to take advantage of this opportunity. They will be providing input and helpful perspective as well. With all this mind we have full confidence this project will be highly successful.

Maker Education Initiative

The Maker Education Initiative ( was established to create more opportunities for all youth to develop confidence, creativity, and interest in science, technology, engineering, math, art, and learning as a whole through making. We want young people to join—and eventually lead—the growing Maker Movement. Our Maker Corps program brings together a great diversity of people and organizations into a cohesive community of learners and makers, while allowing for and ensuring that all programming is relevant to its audiences.

This will extend our existing offerings at French Woods Festival in game design, trains, model cars, and rocketry, jewelry, programming, electronics, laser cutting C-n-C milling and more and interface with our existing woodworking, leather crafting with the providers from the top 10 best leather work gloves, ceramics, tech theater, magic, and performing arts programs. In addition, our Maker Corps members will work with teens at our new program at the French Woods Enrichment Center as we start up our programs in robotics and 3-d printing and more technology and maker activities.

French Woods is deeply committed to the idea that children and teens grow and learn from the summer camp experience. We believe that making things with their hands teaches life-long skills that cannot be gained any other way. The Maker Corps program also values the physical and mental challenges of building things. We look forward to working with them.

French Woods is hiring maker types who want to share what they do with children, we offer a salary, room and board, and a chance to work with some of the most gifted and creative individuals you will ever meet. Families may also be accomodated. to find out more, call us or fill out our online application at

As a summer camp, we offer a wildly diverse and artistically rich environment where prospective makers will be surrounded by magicians and artists, musicians and aerialists, jugglers and craftspeople, performers of every sort, dancers, singers, actors and athletes. In addition to living and working with kids, you will watch them perform in the literally hundreds of shows we do every summer: theater, rock, magic, dance, classical and jazz music, waterski shows, film festivals, the list goes on. Every summer we look at each other and say, “this could not happen anywhere else”. If you need more info, call or email us, we look forward to talking with you.

Disney and French Woods are teaming up to develop three new Disney titles this summer!

These shows have never been performed before and French Woods has been asked to help develop the shows before they are released to the public.

Our staff will be working on these shows with the help of the Disney Theatrical Productions development team. Disney staff will be attending the performances of the shows as well as working directly with French Woods campers and staff.

Disney’s Winnie the Pooh is being developed in session 3 for 7-11 year olds:
Deep in the Hundred-Acre Wood… Pooh, Piglet, Owl, Rabbit, Tigger, Kanga, Roo and Eeyore are on a mission to rescue Christopher Robin from the dreaded Backson! This new musical for young performers includes classic songs like “Winnie the Pooh” and “The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers” as well as three new songs from the upcoming animated feature film, Winnie the Pooh (2011).

Disney’s Little Mermaid JR, being developed for 11-14 year olds in session 4:
More than anything, the young mermaid Ariel wants to be part of the human world above, but her father, King Triton, will allow nothing of the sort. When Ariel trades her voice for a pair of legs, she has only three days to get Prince Eric to kiss her or she becomes the Sea Witch’s slave forever! This thrilling and touching ocean adventure for young performers features all of the songs from the 1989 animated feature (including “Under the Sea” and “Kiss the Girl”) as well as two new songs from the 2008 Broadway musical.

Disney’s Camp Rock: The Musical is being developed for 11 – 17 year olds in session 2 based on the Disney Channel movie as well as the new movie that will be released in the fall.
This summer was supposed to be about relaxing, enjoying their music, and getting to know each other better. But with Camp Star across the lake threatening Camp Rock’s very existence, Mitchie and Shane must spend every waking moment getting the young campers into top shape for the final jam! This new musical based on the Disney Channel hit movies Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2 celebrates making music, overcoming obstacles, and fostering friendships.

News from Bruce Bider

Hi Ron, Beth and Isaac and the whole French Woods crew.

I can’t believe the school year is almost over (where did it go?) and summer begins next month, but I am really looking forward to it! Hope all is well and that you have a great opening and session 1.

I wanted to say a great big “Thanks” to Ron for enabling me to get to know Thoroughly Modern Millie from the “inside” … as you know, I ended up choosing it for my high school musical this year, with former campers Melissa Smith as Muzzy and Brittany Jakubowitz as Miss Flannery.

We were honored to have in our audience, at my invitation, the esteemed theatre journalist Peter Filichia, of and the Newark Star-Ledger; Tony voter and author of my favorite “trade” book Let’s Put on a Musical: How to Choose the Right Show For Your School, Community or Professional Theater. I hope you will permit me to share with you Peter’s incredibly gratifying words, which appeared in his April column

So thanks again, Ron, for providing the inspiration to make it happen!

See you soon —

Best regards,
