The holidays are nearly here and we always look forward to visits from our camp community, both past and present. To those we will not see - we miss you. Please let us know what you are up to!
Our 2023 summer staff is coming together and we still are looking for people in a variety of areas. We have resumed some of our international hiring trips and have found some wonderful new people, and we are thrilled to welcome back many of our staff alumnus. We always are looking for artists, musicians, teachers and athletes, so let us know if you have someone to recommend! Please encourage folks to apply as soon as possible to be considered.
We love to hear from you - let us know what you have been up to and what projects are on the horizon. We miss you all and can’t wait to be together again next summer.

Dear Parents and Guardians;
One of the results of the Pandemic and the ensuing 2 1/2 years is that the concern for Mental Health and Wellness has become a primary focus among so many of us. From that axiom we know that for camp to remain relevant it is incumbent upon us to not just address it but underscore its importance and to develop ways and means to incorporate new methods that will help both parents and campers.
Last month's article focused on life at home before camp begins with suggestions to help parents and other caregivers cope and assist their children in preparation for the summer. This month is Part II that will address staffing changes and restructured trainings that will include a shift in attention toward mental health needs at camp.
Our staff will be prepared with additional trainings that incorporates mental health, wellness, mindfulness. We are increasing the number of staff including more head counselors, more nurses, two doctors each session and a head nurse in-charge throughout the year. We are doing greater outreach now during the off-season that will continue throughout the summer. Mental health, programing and all supervisory issues will be addressed in both training and practice.
Our ability to elevate awareness of mental health challenges and the basic skills to approach, listen to, reassure, and encourage campers to seek help could be invaluable. We are not preventing all of the issues, nor are we providing treatment to campers. Newer staff members working with more experienced staff members mixed with the infusion of elevated training and support makes the French Woods setting a safer place for children.
Rose and I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season and ask you to please stay in touch.
Isaac

Hi Frenchwoodites: Over the years so many of you have visited our office in Florida. Well, after thirty three years, we are moving to a new office complex in Coral Springs. Starting this Spring we will move a few blocks north on Sample Road. We are so looking forward to the move. Extra space and modern office facilities will brighten our day.
The Broadway trips for this summer are on. We have scheduled the dates for Session one and Session three. We will announce the shows in January. We’re just waiting for the summer releases.
At camp the construction continues even though there’s lots of snow. We’re still looking forward to all the bunks being remodeled in 2023. You will also see a remodeled Cat Theater, new waterfront docks and new public facilities open for the summer. We are looking forward to seeing everyone. Right now, registration has passed the 80% mark. We will be announcing the closing of age groups in the next newsletter.
Keep those cards and letters coming. I really enjoy hearing from you.
Keep warm,
Ron & Barbara

Every summer our not-for-profit arm of the camp, the Hancock-French Woods Arts Alliance, runs a 4K Race for the Arts. Donations and sponsorships raised from business sponsors and parents are awarded as partial college scholarships to deserving, needy students committed to a career in the arts who also are your childrens' French Woods counselors. Interested counselors fill out a rigorous scholarship application and HFWAA strives to give those chosen a hand up rather than just a handout. Food for thought: Part of the true magic of camp lies in the relationship between children and their counselors. Children who have been cared for all of their lives by “old” parents in their thirties and forties, or by “ancient” teachers moving through their forties and fifties, are delighted by the novelty of sharing adventures as well as their apprehensions and being cared for by appealing young adults in their late teens and early twenties.
Those young adults are an intergral part of making the French Woods summer experience a great one.
In this special Alumni Edition of The Perfomer, HFWAA gratefully acknowledges the generosity of our 2022 Race for the Arts sponsors. We hope that many of you will consider joining them for Summer 2023.
