We're happy to offer support to our staff so they can get internship credits for their time at French Woods. Because of the scale and pace of our program, you can gain more experience working at camp for the summer than you might be able to anywhere else.
What kinds of internships are available at French Woods?
Our camp offers internship opportunities in education, music education, art education, dance, musical theater, theater tech, media, marketing, graphic design, photography, human resources, culinary arts and food services, sports management, hospitality, coaching, counseling, and nursing. We are always looking for more ways to support our staff. Let us know if you have a different area of interest and we’ll add it to the list.
How do I become an intern at camp?
Becoming a summer intern at our camp requires that you first apply for a staff position. Next, meet with your internship supervisor, dean, or program advisor at your school, within the United States or abroad, and let them know that you have taken a job in a field that you are now studying for a degree. Our leadership team will then assist you in processing the necessary paperwork, and connecting you with your summer mentor.
How will this all work?
Remember, French Woods is the premiere performing and visual arts camp in the country. As a major in any of the arts, your degree work easily correlates with your job at French Woods. While you are being paid to work at French Woods as a counselor, you will be earning credits in the arts, and more, toward your degree. As an intern, you might have to juggle your regular daily job responsibilities along with any school work that is necessary and it will be up to you to motivate yourself in completing your Internship responsibilities.
Together, we will help you create a list of responsibilities, projects, and milestones that will help you achieve your Internship goals. Coming out of the summer you will be able to walk away from camp with at least one tangible project (a presentation, a show, concert, an arts project, a video, an essay, etc.). All should be related to teaching your skills to others. Remember, you really haven’t learned anything until you have taught it to someone else!
Sounds great... where do I start?
Don’t forget, you will need to speak with the internship supervisor at your school to determine whether an internship at camp is relevant to your studies. Those of you who are studying the performing and visual arts, including, music, theater, dance, media, film, etc. will be working within your fields at the top program in the world. Also available to interns would be Sports management, coaching, phys-ed and fitness, food services, business management, etc.
Find out from your school:
What objectives they would like you to complete?
How many hours would be required?
What projects will you need to work on while at camp... and after camp?
You will then need to prepare a proposal and submit it to school for approval. You can list me and/or our Staffing Coordinator, Darryn Lawson, as the on-campus internship supervisor. We will help you write your proposal and gladly speak to your coordinator.
