Traveling to camp is the very beginning of the summer camp experience. French Woods strives to ensure that every camper has an exciting, enjoyable, and safe trip to camp. Whether you decide to drive your camper to French Woods or have decided to utilize one of the many pick up locations that we offer, French Woods ensures that every camper arrives to a welcoming atmosphere.
All families must fill out our Transportation Form online through CampInTouch so that we know exactly how your child will arrive at camp and depart from camp. This includes dropping off or picking up your camper using your own transportation. Children arriving by car should arrive at camp after 10:30 am and before 3:00 pm.
Bus Transportation
French Woods charters a private bus service from the New York and the neighboring states in the following cities: Manhattan, NY; Newark, NJ; Queens, NY; Purchase, NY; Framingham, MA; and Philadelphia, PA. The chartered buses are escorted by our staff members and are direct trips to and from camp from the Pick Up / Drop Off locations.
The Transportation form will need to be submitted at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the scheduled arrival date, after that period it will be assumed that you will be making your own transportation arrangements. Please sign up for the buses on a timely basis as we have limited seats available for some pick up locations.
Bus Pick Up:
All pick up locations have the same scheduled pick up time of 12:00pm, families are strongly encouraged to arrive at 11:30am so that campers can be signed-in, the bus can be loaded, and the buses can depart promptly at 12:00pm to ensure a quick arrival at camp. Please note that families who sign up for the bus pick up and then do not utilize the bus service to camp will incur a $25 “No Show” fee.
Bus Drop Off:
The drop-off locations are the same as the pickup locations and parents should arrive to pick up their campers at 11:30am. Please make sure to arrive on time, as your campers will be anxious to see you. Please note that families wishing to use the camp transportation from camp will be charged $25 to reserve the seat of the bus.
Air Transportation:
The safety and happiness of your child is our first priority. We request that all campers fly into Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Newark is the largest and most conveniently located airport to French Woods, ensuring a very quick transfer to camp after their flight. Newark offers a number of direct flights from throughout the United States and from around the world. All campers who are younger than the airlines stipulated unaccompanied minor age will be required by the airline to fly as an unaccompanied minor to ensure their safe transfer to our Staff at the airport. The name and phone number of the staff member meeting your camper’s flight will be emailed to you 48 hours before their departure.
Flying to Camp
Campers are required to have their flights arrive between 10:30am – 4:00pm to ensure that they arrive at camp in a timely manner and have time to attend the camper orientation and settle into their bunk. All campers are requested to arrive wearing a French Woods t-shirt to ensure that they are easily identifiable by our staff.
When your camper arrives, a French Woods Staff Member will welcome them and escort them to the baggage claim and to the awaiting chartered buses, there will be multiple bus departures from the airport to ensure that your camper doesn’t have to wait at the airport for an extended period of time.
We will meet campers over the age of 15 (depending on airline rules) traveling independently will be met at the exit of their arrival terminal. The staff person will be wearing a French Woods staff shirt, a staff ID, and holding up a French Woods sign. We encourage campers traveling alone to have a cell phone.
Flying from Camp
Campers flying home from camp are required to book their flights to departure from Newark International Airport between the hours of 11:00am – 7:00pm.
Please make sure to pay for all the airlines fees, baggage and unaccompanied minor fees, for the return flight home. Staff members will remain at the airport until every flight has departed and every camper is safely on their way home.
Luggage
For those campers using bus service, luggage can either be brought on the bus or shipped in advance. No more than two pieces of luggage including: musical instruments, and sports equipment can be brought to the bus locations as there is limited space on the buses. See our Packing List for more information.
For those campers flying to camp we highly recommend that you ship your bags to and from camp as this will save your family the inconvenience of having to transport your children’s heavy bags to and from the airport and reduces the risk of lost luggage and will help to avoid additional airline fees.
