Cell Phone, WIFI and Small Electronics Camp Policy

Campers at French Woods Festival are not allowed to bring any cell phone or electric device that has access to wifi, cell service, or is able to transfer data.

Campers who are flying to FWF may bring their phones on their journey, but must turn them in to the office upon arrival. We will store the phones in the office until they finish their stay at FWF.

Cell Phone, WIFI and Small Electronics Camp Policy

French Woods understands the large role of cell phones in the world today. Children and teenagers have increasing pressures in their everyday lives to be connected to the internet and social media. At FWF we strive to foster an environment and community where kids and teenagers can be relieved of that pressure. During their time at camp, campers will interact face-to-face and “love the ones they are with”. At FWF our policy is to ensure that our campers can disconnect, pick their heads up from their devices. make eye contact, live in the moment, learn to advocate for themselves, gain independence, and lift up their chins so they can stretch and grow.

Campers at fwf are not allowed to bring any cell phone or electric device that has access to wifi, cell service, or able to transfer data.

Campers who are flying to FWF may bring their phones on their journey, but must turn them in to the office upon arrival. We will store the phones in the office until they finish their stay at FWF.

If a camper is found with a cell phone or device, the item will be immediately confiscated. These items will NOT be returned, but donated to a local charity. There will be no exception to this policy.

While we want to discourage electronic devices, we do recognize that reading and music play a key role in individual campers daily life and their mental health. E-readers and Music Players must have books and music already downloaded since they will not be able to stream or download any item while at camp. Campers requiring school or professional contact may do so in our wifi classroom or from the camp office. Again, there will be no exception to this policy.

Every FW cabin has a computer set up for email which is open for Sessions one through 4 after forty-eight hours.  Your child’s email consists of firstnamelatsname@frenchwoodscamp.com. With the exception of Session 5, camp phones are open for calling out after the first week of every session. Further, we suggest every camper bring a disposable camera to camp to record their stay.

Hopefully we can all agree that our children need this time during the summer while at camp to unplug, power down and have a well-needed break from social media and electronics. Please be respectful of our rules and partner with FWF by communicating this message at home. This cell phone and electronic policy aligns with our mission of allowing campers the opportunity to gain independence, learn self advocacy, and immerse themselves in our camp culture and program.

FRENCH WOODS CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE, FOR ANY REASON, FOR THE LOSS OR DAMAGE TO YOUR CHILDREN’S ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT including but not limited to cell phones, laptops, tablets, kindles, cords and chargers etc.
